Malcolm Arthur "Mal" Meninga

Mal Meninga is an Australian professional rugby league coach and former player. He was born on the 8th of July, 1960, in Bundaberg, Queensland, which is located near Monto. Meninga is regarded as one of the greatest rugby league players of all time. He represented Australia internationally and captained the Australian national team, the Kangaroos, between 1991 and 1994. Meninga also achieved success as a coach, leading the Queensland Maroons to numerous State of Origin victories.

George Willmett, VC

George Julian Howell Willmett was born on the 15th of October, 1893, in Monto, Queensland. He was an Australian recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC), the highest award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Willmett received the VC for his actions during World War I for charging an enemy machine gun post and capturing it single-handedly. His bravery and heroism earned him a place in Australian military history.

Frank Arthur Armstrong, VC
